Ubuntu-firewall is a stateful firewall designed specifically for Ubuntu Linux Systems. Version 0.9, just released, provides some minor bugfixes...
Ubuntu-firewall is a robust firewall script written specifically for Ubuntu Linux. This firewall has been designed to be called directly by the init processes and only requires a simple config file. It is designed to protect a workstation or server. As such, it's more of an, "install it and forget it" firewall solution. You won't get fancy pop-up windows telling you that it just blocked a "hack attempt" or similar. What you will get is a powerful and robust firewall that will silently and faithfully inspect each and every packet that enters your Ubuntu Box! Simple, yet effective! Ubuntu-firewall has been successfully tested and deployed on a variety of Ubuntu Linux Systems. It will provide more than adequate firewall protection for your Ubuntu Box. It now includes a handy installer script making installation even easier! NAT routing capabilities have been coded in, thereby extending its usefulness. If you have more than one network interface on your box, you can now use Ubuntu-firewall to make your PC function as a powerful NAT router for a small network or other PC! It can also do port forwarding to more than one internal host. If this is your aim, I've written a little Internet Connection Sharing How-to for Ubuntu Linux that you may find useful!
You can download Ubuntu-firewall here: http://rob.pectol.com/ubuntu-firewall.tgz. It's md5sum is here: http://rob.pectol.com/ubuntu-firewall.md5sum. Installation is a snap! After downloading it, open a console and enter the directory to which you downloaded it. Do a, "tar -zxvf ubuntu-firewall.tgz" and it will unpack into a directory called, "ubuntu-firewall." You'll find all the files, including a readme file inside it. Simply follow the readme to install Ubuntu-firewall on your system. It's extremely simple using the included installer script! The bundled .tgz file contains the Ubuntu-firewall Script, it's config file and man page, an installer script, and a small README file. It's easy to configure and use. Simply run the included installer script, modify the config file, and start the firewall. Donations are thankfully accepted! Please consider making a donation of $3 USD if you find Ubuntu-firewall useful. This is certainly NOT required or expected but much appreciated.
If you just want to view the config file that goes with it, there's a text version here: http://rob.pectol.com/ubuntu-firewall-cfg.txt |
