Why Ubuntu?

What makes Ubuntu Linux so good?  Paramount is the fact that it's established on an extremely solid foundation.  The code base for Ubuntu Linux is Debian, which is among the oldest and most respected Linux distributions in existance.  That means Ubuntu, "inhereits" most everything that makes Debian great.  But Ubuntu has more!  With an extremely active developement community along with funding from Canonical, Ubuntu's primary sponsor, it rides along the cutting edge of Linux development!  A regular, predictable release cycle ensures rapid development and support for new hardware.  This is an area in which Ubuntu, "outshines" all other distributions.  Hardware support is usually at the top of most users' priority list and Ubuntu has it more than covered!  Along with predictable release cycles and rapid development, they also have a dedicated team for legacy support.  The minimum support cycle on any version of their distribution is 3 years!

Software for Ubuntu Linux is plentiful!  The available, precompiled binary packages for Ubuntu out-numbers that any other distribution I've tried.  I can count on one hand, the number of times I've had to compile something from source, since I started using Ubuntu Linux!  Almost everything one could want is merely an, "apt-get" away.  Speaking of apt-get, this leads me to my last comments regarding my preference of Ubuntu over other Linux distributions.  Using apt-get (Ubuntu's package manager) is so incredibly easy that I don't even bother opening up Synaptic Package Manager (a front end for apt-get).  Everything is quite easily accomplished from the command line.  But for those folks that don't like the command line, Synaptic Package Manager is extremely easy to use.

Those are just a few things that I think make Ubuntu Linux a great distribution.
